We definitely have a real gem here on the west side of Cincinnati. And by gem I mean one of the best haunted houses in the country. But don’t just take my word for it. Buzzfeed has listed The Dent Schoolhouse as #1 on their list of Insane Haunted Houses That’ll Literally Scare The Shit Out Of You.
Along with dozens of other publications ranking The Dent Schoolhouse for everything from ‘most frightening’ to a ‘must-see’, there’s no doubt that the crew running the show at the old school house does a phenomenal job.
It probably doesn’t hurt that there’s a pretty gruesome history associated with the old schoolhouse that yes, was a functioning school established in 1894. [Click here for the full story of the schoolhouse]
So when given the opportunity to tour the haunted schoolhouse tonight, I was pretty pumped. What I enjoyed just as much as the tour, was learning about everything that takes place that you don’t necessarily think about. Like how there’s over 80 actors who perform in the attraction every night it’s open and it takes 11 make-up artists to get everyone into character.
Probably what struck me as most fascinating is that they make a lot of their costumes. From the sewing to the sculpting, it’s all done within the schoolhouse. Pretty cool, right? Don’t take my word for it, take a look for yourself!
Here’s a glimpse from behind-the-scenes at The Dent Schoolhouse in 25 photos: One of my favorites! ^ And to fully appreciate all those who are attempting to give you a panic attack or wet your pants, they also are just as talented at creating the costumes they’re in. Below is the mask finished (left), and the mold it was created from (right). And below is the beginning of two more masks. Pretty incredible, right? If you’re brave enough to pay a visit to The Dent Schoolhouse this season, let me know what you think! [Lastly but not least, thank you to Dunkin’ Donuts & The Dent Schoolhouse for the lovely, er .. gruesome tour!]
