I bet you never thought about creating nail polish out of eye shadow, or maybe you did. Either way, here is a fun tutorial on how to use up those old broken eye shadows and turn them into color for your nails!

DIY: Nail polish hack - from eyeshadow

This DIY nail polish will not only be your own perfect color that no one else will be wearing but it’s easy and quick, taking me around 10 minutes (including sitting still to allow for my nails to dry)!

DIY: Nail polish hack - from eyeshadowSupplies:

  • Clear Nail Polish. I used a clear top coat for everything.
  • Eye Shadow(s). You can mix multiple shades if you are feeling ambitious!
  • A small plastic or paper cup or something to mix your polish and shadow together.
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Q Tip

1. You’ll need about a teaspoon full of crushed eye shadow. If the shadow was already loose, that makes it one step easier for you. However, if the eye shadow was a solid color, then make sure you really get it smooth. If you don’t do this, then you’ll end up having lumps in your polish. I just used a Q Tip and that worked perfectly for me.

2. Add clear polish to your eye shadow powder.  I just poured it straight from the bottle into my little eye shadow cup. If I had to guess, I’d say it would be about 25 drops of polish.

3. Stir your mixture together using a Q Tip with the cotton taken off. The mixture should become the same consistency as normal nail polish. You can always add more of the clear polish if necessary.
4. Using the brush from the clear nail polish, paint your nails as you normally would. My color ended up becoming matte, so I added the clear top coat to the eye shadow polish once it dried to give it a little shine and prolong its wear.

And above, the end result! This was a pretty easy and fun project…and a good way to re-purpose old eye shadows.

Here’s a few photos of the end result, a custom-colored nail polish. And depending on the clear coat you use, it can last a fairly long time. This color lasted about a week before it started chipping.

Have you tried something like this before? I love the idea!
