M/I Homes - Cooke Model - Rendering - Cincinnati Ohio So last post about our new home I shared how we chose our lot, but that was only one part of the equation. The next big step was to choose the design of our home from the layout of the entire home down to the little knobs on the kitchen drawers — literally.

It took some time to figure out exactly which floor plan we wanted. Originally we had settled on an entirely different plan. But after modeling the floor plans in 3D modeling software, we found that this model, pictured below, actually worked a lot better for us.

I know, you’re thinking this looks nothing like our home and you’re right, it does look a lot different. That’s because we chose not to add the 5th bedroom over the garage because honestly, we didn’t want to pay for it or have a need for it. We already have four rooms upstairs: Our master bedroom, Myles’ room, my office and John’s office. If we were to ever need more room, we could always finish out the basement.

So here’s what John modeled out and what we projected our house to look like:

It seemed to be the perfect size for the three of us (well and a cat, too). So we set our decision in stone on September 20, 2015 on our 7th wedding anniversary!

Next up, the trip to the design center and choosing everything from the floors to the tiny little knobs on the cabinets!
